Biochemistry ii

The Department of Biochemistry was established in the college during the month of October 1995 as an Undergraduate department with 7 students and later in 1998, the department of Biochemistry has been expanded by the introduction of Post graduate Program and now it has been occupied with nearly 200 students both in the UG as well as PG level

Started in the year 1995 with BSc course

Converted to Postgraduate department in the year 1998

Became autonomous in 2009

Has 11 staff members and  2 Non-teaching staffs

Sc., Lab was restructured in 2008 to provide separate lab for Project work

The department has been shifted to new building with good infrastructural facilities

Converted to Research Department in 2015

Courses offered

  • B.Sc. Biochemistry
  • M.Sc Biochemistry
  • M.Phil Biochemistry (With Effect from 2015-2016)
  • Complete details of the department can be accessed from department website at http://dgvcbiochemistry.webs.com.

MISSION

To create a niche in the industry for the students passing out of the portals of the department of Biochemistry, DGVC

To help the healthcare sector by preparing the students for the industry

GOALS

A curriculum to match the industry requirements(Includes certificate programmes, guest lectures, sessions for industry-academic interactions)

Create an ambience for learning (Departmental News letter)

Kindle the research interest in the students

The primary objective of the department is to develop and strengthen the “academics-industry” relationship, in order to make the students passing out industry-ready besides imparting value-based education. The department also facilitates interactions with eminent experts from industries and hospitals. The M.Sc lab was renovated in the year 2008 to provide a spacious setup with a separate instrumentation room and a project room. A computer room has also been set up with  10  computers to facilitate the students to use the ebooks and to provide basic skill in computing. The department has the following labs:

  • B.Sc Biochemistry Lab
  • M.Sc Biochemistry Lab
  • Allied Microbiology Lab
  • Computational Biochemistry Lab
  • MSc/M.Phil Project Lab
  • Instrumentation lab

Lab equipments

  • Spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis equipments, Fluorimetry
  • Cooling centrifuge, Flame Photometry, Single Pan Balance

Teaching Aids

  • Using OHP, LCD
  • e-teaching & e-Learning using open source tools
