Business Administration

The Department of Business Administration was started in the year 1991 with an aim of providing conductive ambience for learning Management & Career oriented subjects, keeping in view the changing trends in education. In the year 2009 the college has attained autonomous status which helped the department to introduce specialization subjects also came out with innovative papers to meet the current requirement of the industry. The department has always recorded a very high success rate. We are also proud of our alumni. Most of them are well placed in reputed organizations and hold key positions. Institutional training is also a part of academics which student undergoes every year to get exposure of the corporate world. The Department has been revising the syllabus regularly under the choice based system. The Department has also introduced specialization in the 4th and 5th semester.  Students every year take part in various cultural and extra curricular activities and win many prizes and bring laurels to the department and to the college. Presently, the Department has 3 sections with around 650 students and 16 faculty members.

Eligibility for Admission:

Candidates for admission to the first years of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course shall be required to have passed Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu, or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the syndicate of the University of Madras.

Aggregate marks obtained in Commerce/Business studies, Accountancy, Mathematics / Business Mathematics/Economics/ Computer science will be considered for admission.

Eligibility of Award of Degree:

A candidate shall eligible for the award of Degree only if he or she has undergone the prescribed course for a period of not less than three academic years, passed the examinations of all Six Semesters prescribed.

 

Course of Study:

The main subject of study for Bachelor Degree shall consist of the following:

Part 1: Foundation course exclusive for language.

Part 2: English

Part 3: Core courses / Allied subjects I and II – Job and skill oriented entrepreneurship components.

Part 4 : Non-major Elective and Skill based subjects.

Part 5 : Extension Activities / Sports/NCC

*Practical Exam would be conducted for 100 marks and be scaled down to 75 as External marks and 25 as Internal Marks

  
Passing Minimum:

A candidate shall be declared to have passed in each paper/practical of the main subject of study wherever prescribed, if he/she secured not less than 40% of the marks prescribed for the examination.
Classification of successful candidates

PART  I,II,III &IV

Successful candidates passing the examination and securing the marks (i) 60% and above and (ii) 50%and above but below 60% in the aggregate shall be declared to have passed the examination in the FIRST and SECOND class respectively. All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the THIRD class.

Candidates who passed all the examination (Part I,II, III &IV) prescribed for the courses in the FIRST APPEARANCE  ITSELF ALONE are eligible for ranking.

ACHIEVEMENTS

The Department has been ranked 30th position in the Times BBA Education Ranking survey 2017 all over India.

Academic & Cultural Activities

The department every year conducts academic and cultural fest “Synergy”.  More than 1000 students from various colleges in and around the Chennai city participate in this program. It is a perfect stage for the students to demonstrate their talents and skills in the various events like Business quiz, Paper presentation, AD maker etc.

Industrial Visit 

In order to give practical exposure to students, the department every year arranges for Industrial visit/Educational tour to various places.

The Department organized “Quiz ‘o’ Mania” – a Quiz Event for school students (classes 11th and 12th). Students from various schools in the city participated and bagged cash prizes.

Projects

Prayanam : Students under took the project – “PRAYANAM” – destination D.G. Vaishna, a booklet on bus route  to reach the college from any part of the Chennai city.

Vishnu Padham (senior citizen helpline) 

 It is a social project, wherein students of department would be helping the senior citizen living in and around Annanagar, Aminjikarai and Arumbakkam.

Internpedia 

Keeping in mind the needs and necessities of the students of Chennai, the Department of Business Administration had initiated the project Internpedia. The project’s purpose is to help the students of Arts and Commerce streams in finding internships in Chennai City.  The department undertakes various projects every year, and this year the project Internpedia was completed and a “Vade Mecum” was released by the chief guest and our Principal received the first copy during the inauguration of Synergy 2012.

Brand Students 

As part of “Students Research and Analysis Forum” students of BBA have under taken project  - “Brand Students” to confront with issues related to purchasing attitude of students living in and around Chennai.

Newsletters  

The department releases the Annual edition of its newsletter “Epitome”. Topics of varied interest are covered in this newsletter.

DEPARTMENT FEST College cultural events are some of the most happening events in the city.   Synergy 2018, the annual intercollegiate Talent Fest organized by BBA  Department, DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai was held on 26th Feb 2018 had a star touch as kolliwood actress Anjana Keerthi and “Thangaratham” Actor Mr.Vetri were present at the event.

Head of the Department, J P Jaideep Presided over the function. The day long fest was attended by more than 500 students from across various colleges in Chennai, who participated in more than 10 different contests and competitions. The highlights were events like Business quiz, stock market etc.

STUDENTS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY  

The highlight of the function was the launch of new initiative taken by staff and students of the department. Head of the department said that their staff and students wanted to redefine “SYNERGY” take to the next level where it would be a brand among all colleges in Chennai. As part of the SSR activities, a modest percent of the sponsor’s amount which has been collected for the event was contributed as exgratia to Ms. Divya for her higher education. She has been identified as a sole bread winner of an underprivileged family, always dreaming for her higher education.

We have constantly strived over the years to include diverse events so that the students not only excel in academic and extracurricular activities but also become useful and responsible citizens. Students who had received laurels in various events were presented awards. The show concluded on a high note, as a everybody appreciated for the contribution, cooperation and responsibility as an upright citizen toward the society.

WORKSHOP /GUEST LECTURE CONDUCTED BY THE DEPARTMENT:  

  • On 25/01/2018, department conducted guest lecture on topic titled “Implications of GST” delivered by Mr.C.A.Damodaran for final year students.

PLACEMENTS :  

  • Department has arranged campus placements for final year students with Bajaj Alliance, New Delhi on 22/03/2018.  70 students enrolled and 11 students were selected.
  • HANDBOOKS FOR STUDENTS :

The Department of Business Administration has come out with handbooks for students in the following subjects :
