DEPARTMENT PROFILE:

With the blessing of Lord Almighty, the Department of Business Administration was started in the year 1991 with an aim of providing conducive ambience for learning Management & Career oriented subjects, keeping in view the changing trends in education. In the year 2009 the college has attained autonomous status which helped the department to introduce specialization subjects also came out with innovative papers to meet the current requirement of the industry. The department has always recorded a very high success rate. We are also proud of our alumni. Most of them are well placed in reputed organizations and hold key positions. Institutional training is also a part of academics which student undergoes every year to get exposure of the corporate world. The Department has been revising the syllabus regularly under the choice based system. The Department has also introduced specialization in the 4th and 5th semester. Students every year take part in various cultural and extra curricular activities and win many prizes and bring laurels to the department and to the college. The University of Madras has authorised to add a new section in the department from the academic year 2015-16.

REGULATIONS

  1. Eligibility for admission:
    Candidates for admission to the first years of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course shall be required to have passed Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu, or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the syndicate of the University of Madras.
    Aggregate marks obtained in Commerce/Business studies, Accountancy, Mathematics / Business Mathematics/Economics/ Computer science will be considered for admission.
  2. Eligibility of award of Degree:
    A candidate shall eligible for the award of Degree only if he or she has undergone the prescribed course for a period of not less than three academic years, passed the examinations of all Six Semesters prescribed.
  3. Course of Study:
    The main subject of study for Bachelor Degree shall consist of the following:
    Part 1: Foundation course exclusive for language.
    Part 2: English
    Part 3: Core courses / Allied subjects I and II – Job and skill oriented entrepreneurship components.
    Part 4 : Non-major Elective and Skill based subjects.
    Part 5 : Extension Activities / Sports/NCC
  4. Passing Minimum:
    A candidate shall be declared to have passed in each paper/practical of the main subject of study wherever prescribed, if he/she secured not less than 40% of the marks prescribed for the examination.
  5. Classification of successful candidates:
    PART I,II,III &IV
    Successful candidates passing the examination and securing the marks (i) 60% and above and (ii) 50%and above but below 60% in the aggregate shall be declared to have passed the examination in the FIRST and SECOND class respectively. All other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the THIRD class.
    Candidates who passed all the examination (Part I,II,III &IV) prescribed for the courses in the FIRST APPEARANCE ITSELF ALONE are eligible for ranking.
  6. QUESTION PAPER PATTERN CONSISTS OF 3 PARTS :
    PART A :- 20 MARKS
    PART B :- 35 MARKS
    PART C :- 45 MARKS

Professor J.P. Jaideep has years of experience in teaching. His area of specialization includes Economics & Management . He is the Deputy Controller of Examinations, D.G. Vaishnav College. He is also the Member, Board of Studies, BBA for University of Madras, Women’s Christian College, JBAS College for Women, Dr. Ambedkar College, Also, he holds various key positions in Examination board, Interview panel, Subject expert at Madras University and other autonomous colleges affiliated to the University of Madras. He has attended 3 refresher programmes and edited/authored 7 books. He has participated/contributed in more than 25 seminars/conferences/workshops held at national/international levels.

Assistant Professor 

Professor L.A. Arumugam has years of experience in teaching. His area of specialization includes Economics & Management . He is the Member, Board of Studies, BBA Board, University of Madras & D.G. Vaishnav College. Also, he holds various key positions as Member, Inspection Commission, University of Madras & Additional Chief Superintendent (External), University of Madras. He is also a Member, Interview Panel to select lecturers in BBA Department in the various autonomous colleges affiliated to the University of Madras. He has participated/contributed in 14 seminars/conferences/workshops held at national/international levels.

Ms. N. Alamelu Sathyabama M.Com., M.Phil,
Assistant Professor 

Ms. Alamelu Sathyabama has 12 years of experience in teaching. Her area of specialization includes Finance & Marketing. She is the Examiner in BBA Board Examinations Univeristy of Madras & various autonomous colleges affiliated to the University of Madras. She has edited/authored 4 books and participated/contributed in 14 seminars/conferences/workshops held at national/international levels and 3 workshops. She has published couple of research papers and has submitted her thesis looking forward for doctoral degree.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

Academic & Cultural Activities:

The department every year conducts academic and cultural fest “Synergy”. More than 1000 students from various colleges in and around the Chennai city participate in this program. It is a perfect stage for the students to demonstrate their talents and skills in the various events like Business quiz, Paper presentation, AD maker etc.,

Industrial Visit:

In order to give practical exposure to students, the department every year arranges for Industrial visit/Educational tour to various places.

The Department organized “Quiz ‘o’ Mania” – a Quiz Event for school students (classes 11th and 12th). Students from various schools in the city participated and bagged cash prizes.
Projects:

Prayanam : Students under took the project – “PRAYANAM” – destination D.G. Vaishna, a booklet on bus route to reach the college from any part of the Chennai city.

Vishnu Padham (senior citizen helpline) : It is a social project, wherein students of department would be helping the senior citizen living in and around Annanagar, Aminjikarai and Arumbakkam.

Internpedia : Keeping in mind the needs and necessities of the students of Chennai, the Department of Business Administration had initiated the project Internpedia. The project’s purpose is to help the students of Arts and Commerce streams in finding internships in Chennai City. The department undertakes various projects every year, and this year the project Internpedia was completed and a “Vade Mecum” was released by the chief guest and our Principal received the first copy during the inauguration of Synergy 2012.

Brand Students :As part of “Students Research and Analysis Forum” students of BBA have under taken project – “Brand Students” to confront with issues related to purchasing attitude of students living in and around Chennai.

Newsletters : The department releases the Annual edition of its newsletter “Epitome”. Topics of varied interest are covered in this newsletter.
