About the Department

The Key factors underlying the success of the Department are the leadership, commitment and effort of its staff. There is perceptible determination to stretch beyond excellence in research and teaching. The Department has excellent infrastructure for teaching and research. There are three main Laboratories, Central instrument room, three classrooms, one seminar Hall and a conference Hall. The department is equipped with an E-classroom. The Department houses, apart from regular on routine bacteriological equipments, advanced instruments such as UV spectrophotometer, Gel-Doc system, Trinocular microscope that offers bright field, dark field and phase contrast features, High speed refrigerated centrifuges, laminar air flow stations, Inverted microscope, PCR-thermo-cycler and Electrophoresis facilities.

To enhance the intellectual foundation of our students and prepare them for life in a complex, dynamic world where they would preserve, add to, evaluate, and transmit knowledge in the field of Microbiology and become responsible contributing citizens of society, who can take up leadership positions around the globe.
To groom proficient students as scientific workforce in national and global excellence for industry and to make accessible a large pool of well-educated entities as potential pedagogue.

Herbal garden plantation & maintenance by the students
Regular fumigation of all labs in the department once in a month
Association - active participation of the students in organizing Seminars/ symposiums/ Conferences/workshops by the department.
Inculcating environment consciousness in the minds of students.
Maintaining a good stock of identified and documented microbial culture collection.
Air quality analyses performed at regular intervals at DGVC where the microbial load present in air is analyzed.
Proper decontamination protocols are strictly followed where wastes are properly disposed off, in accordance with standard waste disposal norms.
Students are taught the importance of publications in academics as well as in industry and are encouraged to publish in reputed scientific journals.
We offer our students a choice based elective system or open elective system where students can choose any interdisciplinary elective of their choice from a huge collections of courses available to them.
